Rooted marks the beginning of Funklândia, a multi-installment musical world created by Brazilian artist Gabby B.

Developed gradually over time, the project brings Brazilian funk together with global pop and Latin influences, reflecting Gabby’s multicultural journey while remaining grounded in the music and culture of Brazil.

At the center of the project is executive producer Joseph “Mr. Hit Record” Lopez, who helped shape its creative direction, developing many of its beats and initial ideas while working closely with Gabby to build the larger vision for Funklândia. Brazilian producer DJ Biel Bolado contributed to key recordings, while Gabby’s collaboration with Brazilian artist MC Xangai became one of the project’s standout cultural connections. Behind the scenes, independent label Muy Bueno managed the day-to-day creative and operational work required to bring the project together.

Born in Goiás, Brazil, and raised across France, Canada, and the United States, Gabby created Funklândia as a way to reconnect with her Brazilian roots and bring greater global awareness to Brazilian funk. Rather than simply placing funk production beneath conventional pop songs, Rooted uses pop elements to create an entry point into the genre for global and American audiences, building a bridge without removing the rhythm, attitude, or cultural identity that defines it.

Across the project, Rooted explores confidence, empowerment, sensuality, freedom, identity, and belonging. It serves as both a personal return to Gabby’s foundation and the first territory within the wider world of Funklândia.

“I want the world to understand what Brazilian funk is and experience it through Funklândia,” Gabby says. “This is the most authentic version of who I am. It brings together my Brazilian roots and all the different cultures that have shaped me.”
